Is photobiomodulation dangerous for the eyes?

¿La fotobiomodulación es peligrosa para los ojos?

Red light and cosmetic care: what do you need to know for your eyes?

At Myssera , we develop treatments designed to complement your wellness routines, including those that incorporate LED light therapy at home. But one question often comes up: is red light harmful to the eyes when used with complementary products? We'll answer your questions with complete transparency.

What is photobiomodulation?

Red light used in cosmetics (also called photobiomodulation ) is a gentle technology that stimulates the skin in depth. It is particularly effective for: stimulating collagen production, soothing inflammation, supporting cell regeneration.

Used alone or in addition to a suitable serum or elixir , it boosts the effects of the active ingredients while providing a relaxing routine.

Is red light dangerous for the eyes?

👉 No , when used correctly.
The red LEDs used in beauty devices are designed to be non-aggressive . No direct link has been established between this light and any eye risks in standard home use. On the contrary, some studies even suggest beneficial effects on eye aging.

That said, the skin around the eyes is thinner and more sensitive, so we recommend:

  • to avoid applying the treatment too close to the eye ,

  • not to direct the LED light directly into the eyes ,

  • and if you are sensitive or wear contact lenses, close your eyes during exposure .

Compatible and safe formulas

Our Myssera formulas are developed to be safe for use with your at-home LED routines. They do not contain any photosensitizing ingredients or ingredients incompatible with red or blue light. This is a key formulation point for us.

We favor stable, natural and scientifically validated active ingredients , which reinforce the effectiveness of your devices without attacking your skin — or your eyes.

Should you protect your eyes during an LED routine with careful application?

This is not essential if: you respect the distances for using the device, you use gentle and suitable products, and you close your eyes during exposure for greater comfort.

But if you're very sensitive or prefer to be cautious, light protection (glasses or a headband) can add peace of mind.
